Kati Vasti refers to the therapeutic retention of warm medicated oil over the lower back.

Kati Vasti is a classical Ayurvedic external therapy in which warm medicated oil is retained over the lower back region for a specific period using a specially prepared dough ring. It is one of the most effective therapies for managing pain, stiffness, and degenerative conditions affecting the lumbosacral region.Kati means Lower back or lumbar region and Vasti implies retention or holding.

Procedure
.The patient is made to lie comfortably in a prone position.
.A ring made of black gram flour dough is placed over the lower back region and sealed properly.
.Warm medicated oil, selected according to the disease condition, is slowly poured into the reservoir formed by the dough ring.
.The temperature of the oil is maintained by periodically replacing it with freshly warmed oil.
.The oil is retained for about 20–40 minutes.
.After completion, the oil and dough are removed, followed by gentle massage and mild fomentation if indicated.
