Janu vasti
Janu Vasti refers to the therapeutic retention of warm medicated oil over the knee region.
Janu Vasti is a specialized Ayurvedic therapy in which warm medicated oil is retained over the knee joint for a specific duration. This therapy provides localized oleation and sudation, helping to nourish the joint structures, relieve pain, and improve mobility. It is widely used in the management of various knee joint disorders and degenerative conditions. Janu means knee joint and vasti is retention or holding.
Procedure
.The patient is made to lie comfortably in a supine position.
.A leak-proof ring is prepared using black gram flour dough and placed around the knee joint.
.Warm medicated oil, selected according to the patient's condition, is gently poured into the reservoir.
.Temperature of the oil is maintained by periodically replacing it with freshly warmed oil.
.Oil is retained for about 20–30 minutes.
.After completion of the procedure, the oil and dough are removed, followed by gentle massage and mild fomentation if indicated.
