Dhara
Dhara is a treatment in which medicated liquids are poured continuously in a rhythmic stream over the body or a specific part for a prescribed duration.
Dhara is a specialized Ayurvedic therapy in which medicated liquids are poured continuously in a rhythmic stream over the body or a specific part for a prescribed duration. Dhara is known for its relaxing, rejuvenating, and therapeutic effects on the body and mind. Depending on the liquid used and the area treated, different types of Dhara are practiced in Ayurveda. Dhara literally means "continuous flow or streaming." In this therapy, medicated liquids such as oils, decoctions, milk, buttermilk, or herbal preparations are poured continuously to provide nourishment, relaxation, and healing.
.Shirodhara : Continuous stream of medicated liquid is poured over the forehead.
.Takra Dhara : Medicated buttermilk is poured continuously over the forehead.
Poorva Karma (Preparatory procedure)
.Patient is examined and suitable medicated liquids are selected.
.Mild oil application or massage may be performed if indicated.
.Patient is positioned comfortably on the treatment table.
Pradhana Karma (Main Procedure)
.Medicated liquid is warmed to a suitable temperature.
.Liquid is poured continuously in a rhythmic stream from a specific height.
.Flow of dhara is maintained uniformly throughout the procedure.
.Treatment generally lasts for 20–60 minutes, depending on the type of Dhara and disease condition.
Paschat Karma (Post-procedure)
.Patient is gently cleaned and dried.
.Adequate rest is advised after the procedure.
