Choorna Pinda Sweda (Podikizhi)
Choorna Sweda is an Ayurvedic sudation therapy using heated herbal powder boluses
Choorna Pinda Sweda is a specialized form of Swedana (sudation therapy) in Ayurveda in which heated medicinal herbal powders are tied in boluses (pottali) and applied over the body or affected parts. It is one of the important external therapies used to relieve pain, stiffness, swelling, and improve mobility in various musculoskeletal and neurological disorders.
Choorna means herbal powder, Pinda means bolus, and Sweda means sudation or fomentation. The therapy provides both the benefits of heat and the medicinal action of herbs, making it highly effective in balancing aggravated Vata and Kapha doshas.

The selected herbal powders such as Kolakulathadi choorna, Rasnadi choorna, or other suitable formulations are lightly roasted and tied in clean cotton cloth to prepare boluses. The affected area is first gently massaged with medicated oil according to the condition. The herbal boluses are then heated and applied over the body in a rhythmic manner while maintaining a comfortable temperature. The treatment usually lasts for about 30–45 minutes and may be continued for several days depending on the disease condition.
