Avagaha Sweda - Sitz bath
Avagaha Sweda is a traditional Ayurvedic sudation therapy where the patient is made to sit or lie in a tub filled with warm medicated herbal decoctions.
Avagaha Sweda is a type of Swedana (sudation therapy) mentioned in Ayurveda in which the body or a specific body part is immersed in warm medicated liquids. It is a highly effective therapy used for relieving pain, stiffness, inflammation, and disorders affecting the pelvic and lower body parts.
Procedure
The patient is made comfortable in a tub or specially designed vessel.
Medicated liquids such as herbal decoctions, medicated oils, milk, or warm water are prepared according to the disease condition.
The affected body part is immersed in the warm medicated liquid, maintaining a comfortable temperature.
The immersion is continued for about 20–30 minutes, with the temperature being maintained throughout the procedure.
After the treatment, the patient is dried properly and advised to take adequate rest.
